How close is the beach?
The nearest Caribbean beach is a short shuttle ride away, 15 minutes to Puerto Viejo.
What is the weather like?
Mornings are generally sunny and afternoons will often bring in tropical rain.
Will I encounter wildlife?
Yes, we share the rainforest with all creatures, including insects who may make a guest appearance in your room. The lodging is screened and closed off, however, we recommend no food items outside of the restuarant to avoid attracting our rainforest friends.
Is there A/C?
There is no air conditioning as the Rainforest regulates the temperature naturally. The screened windows allow for the year round sea breeze to circulate and cool.
What if I’m not a vegetarian or if I do have dietary restrictions, requests?
Fish ($9) and Chicken ($7) are available for every meal. We are vegetarian but can accommodate vegan, gluten free, sugar free and almost any dietary restriction. Just notify us of your needs prior to arrival.
Is there wifi?
Yes, it’s included for free and available in the restaurant & lounge. However, since we are up on a hill the wifi reception can be slow or unreliable at times.
Do I need a 4X4 to stay at Samasati?
No, 4X4 shuttle service is provided to transport guests up and down the mountain road. If you bring a non 4X4 vehicle to Samasati you’re welcome to use our secure parking at base camp.
How far away is Samasati from San Jose Airport?
Samasati is 4-6 hours away from the San Jose airport by car or shuttle van. If you prefere to take a flight to the Limon airport, it is 30 min by air and then another 45 min by shuttle to Samasati.
What is your cancellation Policy
Deposits and payments for reservations at Samasati are not refundable, including in case of early departure. Booked transfers will be fully charged unless the transfer’ reservation is cancelled 72 hours before arrival time.

Airport Transfers
The closest international airport to Samasati is Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) in San Jose. This international airport is a 4-6 hour drive from Samasati or 90 minutes of travel via domestic flight to Limon airport with a shuttle ride to Samasati.
If you are in a road trip / exploration mood you can drive, take a private taxi or a shuttle service. The middle part of the drive is quite scenic as you will go through the mountains in a national park and you will get to stop over at spots serving local food. This drive duration will vary on traffic and how long you stop.
The shuttle ride is about $52 per person and the private taxi is $200. If there are more than 6 of you, we would charter a private shuttle for you which would be more cost effective.
Please check https://www.caribeshuttle.com/ for the latest schedule for departures from San Jose Airport to Samasati ( enter Puerto Viejo as the destination to get the schedule). Caribe recommends that you land 90 – 120 mins before the departure of the shuttle as it could take time to go through customs and collect luggage. However, our guests have made it with an hour to spare if you want to take that chance.
